The Pelagic Zone forms part of the main world ocean and are those that are considered to be the open sea. Within those zones are the great and small gyres of marine pollution which mainly consist of plastic debris. Plastic particles occur at both shallow and deep water and are affecting the ecology at the microscopic level and otherwise.

This work has been split into 5 segments that denote the main oceans, and the distribution and colours of the plastic debris describe the size and depth of each of the pelagic zones of these oceans, where visible light penetrates and loses.
