Maximillian Wölfgang Gallery proudly presents Anthropocene, a collective show featuring the works of five artists from across the U.K.
Steve McPherson, Erika Trotzig, Paul Hazelton, Kamalishe Hiraldo, and Sophie Anna Gibbings embark on an exploration of the period of time during which human activities have impacted the environment enough to constitute a distinct geological change by challenging our perceptions of the familiar and venturing into the surreal. This exhibition prompts us to question the dynamics of how we collectively view the Earth and how, in turn, individuals perceive their place within our ecosystem. The lines between ecological stewarship and distopian consumerism become a focal point, enticing viewers to reflect on the fragility of our environmental impact.
As Anthropocene unfolds across diverse mediums-video, sculpture, painting, and photography-it beckons us to reevaluate the boundaries between self and nature. This exhibition offers a multidimensional exploration of the human experience through the lens of climate crisis and late-stage-capitalism.
